Preseason Bowl Projections: ESPN puts Kentucky in Duke's Mayo Bowl
The college football season hasn’t even started and there are already bowl projections; today’s come from ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach, who agree that Kentucky will play in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl on December 30 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Bonagura pits Kentucky against Virginia Tech in a rematch of the 2019 Belk Bowl. Thanks to some late-game heroics by Lynn Bowden, the Cats beat the Hokies 37-30. It was the last Belk Bowl ever; the next year, Duke’s Mayo took over sponsorship of the event. Schlabach has Kentucky playing Pittsburgh, which would give the Cats a chance to avenge the 27-10 loss to the Panthers in the 2011 BBVA Compass Bowl.

The inaugural Duke’s Mayo Bowl was hard to forget, not because of the game, but the celebrations after. Wisconsin players doused head coach Paul Chryst with water from a Duke’s Mayo cooler (which many of us hoped might be mayonnaise) and broke the trophy in the locker room.
Hilariously, Wisconsin players came up with the perfect replacement.
There are more glamorous and prestigious bowls out there, but think of the fun we could have with the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.
