Preseason Perspective: Raceland QB Logan Lundy
We’re a little over one month away from the start of another high school football season in the state of Kentucky. Heading into the season, KSR will be interviewing some of the state’s brightest high school football stars, getting to hear some thoughts and perspectives before another exciting year of football across the Commonwealth. We’ve already spoken with Corbin’s Kade Elam, CAL’s Cole Hodge, and Frederick Douglass’ Demeco Kennedy. Next up is Raceland’s Logan Lundy.
Senior quarterback Logan Lundy heads into the upcoming high school football season as the leader of the Raceland Rams, which have one of the most passionate fanbases in all of Kentucky. KSR’s Freddie Maggard detailed his experience in Raceland last season following their 38-14 win over Paintsville. The Rams finished the season at 13-2, dropping the 1A state championship game to Pikeville in a blowout. That disappointing loss has been keeping the senior up at night and has him chomping at the bit to get his get-back.
“I think about it every day,” Lundy said. “I’m going into this season knowing it’s my last ride I’ll ever have with Raceland, so I want to get them their state championship. That’s my dream and what I want to happen.”
Lundy had an absolute whirlwind of a final month last season, as tragedy almost struck mere hours before Raceland’s 1A quarterfinal matchup against Hazard. A fire broke out in Lundy’s neighborhood, which he noticed on his way home to retrieve his Chromebook. Lundy ran to the scene, helping homeowner Jenny Ratliff, who had been battling an illness, out of the cold and into a van that he backed out of the garage before flames could engulf the vehicle.
“That was just a wild week with that happening and the Hazard game that night,” Lundy said. “There was a lot of emotions and that was for sure going to be a good night against Hazard.”
A good night it was, as Lundy’s rushing touchdown gave the Rams the edge over Hazard, leading to a 17-14 win.
“We have a very loving fan base and a very good community,” Lundy said about Raceland. “They’re all very supportive of all our players so they were all happy that that was their quarterback doing that. Coach [Michael] Salmons teaches us leadership skills that aren’t just about football, but how to be better men. So, I didn’t think that big of a deal of it.”
Raceland will host one of the biggest games of the entire Kentucky High School football season when Kentucky QB commit Cutter Boley and Lexington Christian Academy make their way to Greenup on October 27th. Instead of backing down, Lundy looks forward to hosting the sixth-ranked quarterback in the entire class of 2024.

“Supposedly he’s the best there is, so I want to see it,” a confident Lundy said. “No disrespect as he’s a great player, but I’m ready to play him.”
Lundy finds himself quarterbacking a team with lofty expectations following their run to the 1A state title game last season. Molding himself into a senior leader has been a long time coming for the 2,000-yard passer.
“I remember my first day of practice at Raceland, and Coach Salmons didn’t even know me. He told me, ‘I want you to be first in everything that you do, I don’t care what you’re doing.’ I always think about that.”
Heading into his final season, there’s only one more thing left for Lundy to check off his list of accomplishments.
“I want to leave with a ring on my finger,” Lundy said. “We’ve had great seasons, so I don’t really want to say anything, but we just need to keep up the good work and try to keep our heads down because it’s what coach Salmons preaches: ‘Play hard and don’t say a word.’ I just want to keep doing what I’ve been doing, but I want to finish it in December for me and the community. It’s going to be a good year.”
The Rams open their season on the road against Ashland Blazer on August 18th.
