247 years ago our ancestors were tired of paying taxes. Their decision to combat tyranny by taking up arms against the redcoats set off a chain of events that has made the Fourth of July a national football recruiting holiday.

A world-changing revolution has long been celebrated with fireworks and hot dogs. Over the last decade football recruiting decisions entered into the mix. It makes sense. Families are already getting together to celebrate the national holiday. Why not add a life-changing decision to really up the stakes?

Kentucky already picked up a couple of four-star additions over the weekend. Tennessee native Elijah Groves ditched the Volunteer State for the Big Blue Nation. Terhyon Nichols picked the Cats over Michigan, then sat down with KSR to share what he’s bringing to Lexington.

We know a few more prospective players are announcing their decisions on the Fourth of July. Another one or two could surprise us, but until then, let’s take a closer look at Cameron Keys and Alex Foster.

Kentucky Secures Cornerback Position

Not to play spoiler, by Nichols kind of did that last night. There is no doubt that Cameron Keys is a talented cornerback. He’s a top 300 overall player and a four-star prospect. But Kentucky decided to prioritize Nichols over Keys. They also already landed a commitment from another cornerback Jiquavious “Quavo” Marshall.

This is following a similar script. Cam Dooley officially visited Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Missouri, then picked the Tigers on Saturday. That’s likely what will happen tomorrow when Cameron Keys announces his decision on the Fourth of July.

Uncertainty Surrounding Alex Foster

One decision is cut and dry, while another is clouded with mystery… to an extent. Spoiler: it’s probably not going to be Kentucky for Alex Foster. The Wildcats tried to get the defensive lineman from Mississippi on campus for an official visit, but nothing ever came to fruition. The three-star prospect told KSR+’s Jacob Polacheck that he might save one to Lexington in the middle of the season. Meanwhile, Arkansas, Baylor and Georgia Tech emerged as his primary suitors. The date of the decision may move around, but unless something changes this fall, don’t expect to see the defensive lineman land at Kentucky.
