QB Luke McCaffrey transfers from Louisville as soon as he arrives on campus

Scott Satterfield continues to stir up a stinky stew on Floyd Street. An ungodly odor is the only plausible explanation as to why everyone who touches the UofL football program wants to get the hell out of there as quickly as possible.

This offseason three members of Louisville’s coaching staff took jobs elsewhere. Even Satterfield flirted with South Carolina, ending publicly in disaster. Despite a rocky month or two, Scott was ready to rebound with his Tots, well, except for one.

Luke McCaffrey, the son of the famous Denver Bronco receiver and younger brother to the Carolina Panthers running back, was a four-star quarterback prospect in the class of 2019. He spent the last two seasons at Nebraska, completing 63% of his passes for 466 yards, 1 TD and 6 INTs last season as a redshirt freshman. Acting primarily as the Huskers running QB option, he had more than 500 yards and 4 TDs in two seasons.

Searching for greener pastures, McCaffrey left Scott Frost’s program to become a Cardinal. After a few years of subpar recruiting, landing the former No. 5 dual-threat quarterback in America was a big get for Satterfield. Louisville’s head coach got McCaffrey on campus, but he couldn’t keep him there.

In a Wednesday morning radio appearance on ESPN Radio Louisville, Satterfield revealed that shortly after arriving on campus last week, McCaffrey decided “this wasn’t the place for him.” McCaffrey left Louisville’s campus as soon as he got to town. Satterfield said the former Husker expected to be the starting quarterback, but let’s not kid ourselves, that’s just an excuse. He knew Malik/Micale/Malik Cunningham was the man to beat. It’s not like as soon as McCaffrey opened his Louisville locker, Cunningham was there to jump out and surprise him.

One look at McCaffrey’s stats and a Cardinal fan can be convinced it’s not a big loss… until the fragile Cunningham inevitably goes down with a minor injury and Evan Conley is the only quarterback available to keep the boat afloat for a few series. Which is why Satterfield said they’re also still looking for a quarterback to add to next year’s roster, and a safety, a wide receiver, and maybe a running back too. Really, Satterfield just needs a whole new team. The good news is he has plenty of time to find players — seven whole weeks!
