Quaysheed Scott showing out in senior season, still locked in with Kentucky

Nine games through his senior season, Kentucky commit Quaysheed Scott is beginning to draw national attention. Although still considered a three-star prospect, he’s been rising in the rankings due to his impressive play on the field. It’s not just the recruiting evaluators that have taken notice though. South Carolina extended Scott an offer last week not long after he took an unofficial visit to the Gamecocks.
But that being said, the Marion (SC) High product is still locked in with Kentucky.
“Right now I’m still 100 percent UK,” Scott told KSR on Monday night.
Scott was in Lexington this past weekend for an unofficial visit to see Saturday’s game against Missouri. He said everything went “good and smooth” and that Kentucky coaches continue to text him every day. The 6-foot, 185-pound athlete is going to continue to hear from South Carolina until the very end though. He’ll take official visits to both UK and USC in December, although exact dates have yet to be ironed out.
It’s no wonder that South Carolina is interested in Scott either. He’s an in-state recruit less than two hours away from campus who is having an impressive senior campaign for Marion (8-1). Scott has been lining up on both sides of the ball for his high school team, primarily playing wide receiver and safety. He’s also suited up on special teams.
“I feel like I’ve been doing good, trying to get my teammates involved and everything,” Scott said. “Not trying to be selfish. I could do better though. I’ve been doing good but I’ve been getting double-teamed and stuff. So that’s just making my teammates more open.”
Through his first eight games of 2023, according to MaxPreps, Scott has recorded 27 rushes for 369 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground plus 14 receptions for 366 yards and five more scores through the air. On defense, he’s racked up 45 total tackles (27 solo), 5.0 tackles for loss, two interceptions, one pass deflection, and one fumble recovery. It doesn’t stop there though. Scott has also added two kickoff returns for touchdowns, one of them a 99-yard sprint from endzone to endzone.

Don’t be surprised if Scott continues to rise in the recruiting ranks. 247Sports recently bumped him up to a borderline four-star prospect and a top-10 recruit from the state of South Carolina. If he continues his impressive play into the postseason, other outlets could follow suit.
“I’ve been feeling like I was overlooked for a long time. Everybody is finally seeing who I am,” Scott added. “I got bumped to No. 7 in the state. I feel like that’s a good achievement, but I’m still trying to get top one.”
Scott says that Kentucky sees him as a slot cornerback at the college level. He prefers to play defense, so it should be a natural fit. But the Wildcats will have to fend off South Carolina’s final pitch to make that a reality.
