Rapid Reaction from the First Mark Stoops Game Week Presser of 2023
Talking season is officially over. Mark Stoops opened the first game week of the 2023 Kentucky football season with a press conference in front of dozens of media members at Kroger Field. That also means Rapid Reactions are back.
Steven Peake brought his camera to the student section where Adam Luckett and I discussed the most noteworthy moments from the first Stoops press conference of the 2023 season. Even though many of the topics have already been discussed ad nauseam this offseason, Monday brought the BBN some news.
First and foremost, the highly-publicized competition at right tackle has not been decided. It was one of many “ORs” on the first Kentucky football depth chart. One depth chart omission did reveal some bad news on the Kentucky offensive line. Ben Christman was expected to be the first interior offensive lineman off the bench. Instead, he’s been sidelined by a season-ending injury. We break down what it means for the Big Blue Wall this fall.

This offseason Mark Stoops rectified special teams problems by adding tons of talent to the room. It started at the top by hiring Jay Boulware to coordinate the special teams and coach the running backs. Boulware brought in a new placekicker, Alex Raynor, who has shown reliability throughout the preseason. With the changes brought a new wrinkle to the depth chart. This year Kentucky will have a long snapper and a short snapper. No, it does not describe their differences in height (even though it is a stark contrast).
It’s almost Football Time in the Bluegrass. We cannot contain our enthusiasm much longer.
