The Reese’s Senior Bowl is the cream of the crop when it comes to college football all-star games and pre-draft events. Only the best of the best get invited to compete in front of 900-plus NFL personnel across all 32 franchises.

So it’s fitting that Kentucky‘s own Ray Davis — inarguably one of the game’s top running backs — got the call this time around.

The 1,000-yard back accepted his invite to the 2024 Reese’s Senior Bowl on Wednesday, the second Wildcat to join the star-studded roster in Mobile, Alabama. Dru Phillips will also participate.

Davis is coming off a remarkable one-and-done campaign in Lexington where he totaled 1,066 yards and 13 touchdowns on 5.7 yards per carry to go with 317 receiving yards and seven touchdowns on 29 catches. The 5-10, 216-pound back declared for the 2024 NFL Draft back on Nov. 27, but later decided to suit up in blue and white one final time in this week’s Gator Bowl vs. Clemson.

“For me, it was about finishing what I started with these guys. These guys are family to me. To have that ability to just go out there and play one last game, leave it all out on the field and potentially hoist up another trophy, to know all of the memories and ups and downs were worth it,” Davis told KSR of his decision. “You know, I wanted to be out there one more time and win the game, do it for the city of Lexington. I feel like I have the ability to call Lexington my home now. I want to be able to come back here years from now and know I was able to do something for these people.”

“It says a lot about Ray, it says a lot about our team,” Mark Stoops said of Davis suiting up in the Gator Bowl.

The Reese’s Senior Bowl is set to take place on Saturday, February 3 at 1 p.m. ET, live from Mobile on NFL Network. It’s an event that produced 100 total picks for a third consecutive season this past April, representing 40 percent of the entire NFL Draft, highlighted by 40 selections on the first two days.

Ray Davis is certain to join that list.
