Ray Davis has had an up-and-down rookie season with the Buffalo Bills in terms of the number of touches he receives, but he’s always one missed tackle away from breaking open a game. The former Kentucky running back did just that once again on Sunday.

Late in the third quarter of the Bills’ Week 9 home matchup against the Miami Dolphins, Davis caught a pass in the backfield from quarterback Josh Allen on 2nd and third from their own 37-yard line. He immediately sprinted down the right sideline and cut left around midfield just as a Dolphins player was gearing up to make a tackle. Davis made him miss and brushed off another would-be tackler, finishing off the 63-yard run in the endzone.

Davis celebrated by jumping into the crowd as the Bills hit on a two-point conversion that made it a 20-13 game in favor of the home team. Just watch how fast Davis burst his way up the field for his third touchdown of the season. It marked the longest receiving touchdown by a Bills running back since 2012.

“I kinda blacked out,” Davis said, according to Dan Fetes of 13WHAM. “Just heard the crowd erupt and figured nobody was around me.”

The Bills would go on to win this game 30-27 thanks to a 61-yard field goal from Tyler Bass with just five seconds left in the game. It marked Buffalo’s fourth straight win, putting them a 7-2 on the season. Davis has played a significant role in the team’s success this season.

A fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft after an All-SEC First-Team super-senior season at Kentucky, Davis has been making an impact all season long for the Bills. The 24-year-old has 61 carries on the season for 262 yards and two touchdowns. He’s also caught the ball 11 times for another 149 yards and the aforementioned touchdown.

Davis’ best outing this season came in a 23-20 victory over the New York Jets, which sparked Buffalo’s current win streak. In that win, he ran for 97 yards while catching for 55 more. There’s still half of a season left, but Davis certainly feels on pace to be an All-Rookie Team candidate when all is said and done.
