Ray Davis at the Senior Bowl: "Look Mom, One Hand!"
Ray Davis is good at running the football. We watched him do just that last year and the year before, tallying consecutive 1,000+ yard rushing seasons in the SEC with two different teams. Few realized until he put on a Kentucky uniform that the talented athlete is also a pretty damn good pass-catcher. He’s proving it this week in front of NFL scouts at the Senior Bowl.
The former Kentucky running back entered the NFL Draft showcase with an exceptional grade amid a slim pool of talent at the position. A solid week could help him climb all the way into day two as a second or third rounder. On day two of practice he produced an eye-opening highlight.
During individual drills, Davis broke free down the seam and snagged an impressive one-handed reception.
Those receiving abilities can be a difference-maker for a running back who’s trying to stand out amongst his peers. Also, he runs the ball pretty damn well too.
As you probably saw in the image at the top of this post, one of Davis’ best contested catches was against a former teammate, LB Trevin Wallace.
Andru Phillips Impresses at Senior Bowl
Many folks around the Big Blue Nation were surprised to see the Kentucky cornerback declare early for the NFL Draft. Andru Phillips is proving to NFL teams at the Senior Bowl that he can play on Sundays.

If you search his name on Twitter, you’ll find no shortage of clips with Phillips winning one-on-one reps. Georgia WR Ladd McConkey was consistently beating everybody until he went up against the former Kentucky Wildcat. Phillips does some of his best work as a nickel, using physicality to beat receivers to a spot. He also showed that he can make plays down the field.
Phillips earned praise from scouts throughout the season for showing off next-level athleticism. That was evident on Wednesday when he was clocked running faster than 20 mph in one-on-one drills. ESPN NFL Draft scout Jordan Reid said the play of Phillips was one of his biggest takeaways from Wednesday’s practice.
“Kentucky’s Andru Phillips also stood out; he slid inside to nickel and then transitioned outside during the 11-on-11 portion of practice,” wrote Reid.
It’s been a solid week for the former Kentucky Wildcats. Today is the final day of practices for them to show off before the NFL Draft prospects take the field for Saturday’s Senior Bowl. You can watch the action from 10-3 pm EST today on the NFL Network, which will also carry Saturday’s 1 pm EST game broadcast.
