Recruiting Silence

by:Dustin Rumbaugh05/03/10
Today is my final real day of law school. I take a final tonight and I'm done with having to actually go into school. I still have one take home final which I have to work on tomorrow but the class was interesting (which means I actually paid attention) and the teacher was good (and is also a fan of this little blog) so I'm not really dreading working on this final as much as finals in the past. Therefore, it's a pretty good day. Despite that, I really don't have any good news to pass along to you guys today. Good news that I really thought would probably come this weekend. However, it looks like the status quo of Jones remaining silent and thinking over his options is going to hold out for another afternoon. With Jones being the last top position prospect on the list, the rest of the UK recruiting world is on pause until he decides. One question I've received quite a bit and I thought I would address is whether Jones waiting longer is better for UK or better for Washington? Marquis Teague's situation was definitely better for UK and we stressed that all along but the situation here is much different. Jones knows all he needs to know about both schools. There isn't any crease in a door that Cal is trying to jam his foot in. Both schools are in the "room," sitting on the couch and eating cookies with Mr. Jones. The situation is moreso on Jones and how he is planning to politely ask one of his guests to leave, even though he'd like to party through the night with both, but his parents (meaning the NCAA rules and not his real parents) are only allowing him to have one friend stay the night. So in the end it really has nothing to do with time. It just has to do with when one factor is going to pop into Jones' head that pushes the scales one way or another. My money was on UK getting the late push this past week. Others had Washington but no one really knew. Not even Jones. Does he know now? I really don't know. All I can say is the same thing that I said last week, which was that the vibes for UK are pretty positive right now but a final decision hasn't been made. When will we know? Again, no one knows. It's completely up to Jones. All we can do now is be patient and give the kid his time. Jones is definitely a talent worth waiting for and that's exactly what Calipari looks ready to do.
