Reed Sheppard will face Robert Dillingham, Bronny James on ESPN Tuesday night
How about this lineup of future stars for a random night in July?
On Tuesday, the Las Vegas Big Time Finale will play host to a must-see slate of high school hoops. A pair of current Kentucky commits, Reed Sheppard and Robert Dillingham, will go head-to-head at 9:00 p.m. EST on ESPN in a battle between Midwest Basketball Club and Strive For Greatness.
Some might notice that SFG is not Dillingham’s regular EYBL team (that would be Team CP3), but the five-star PG is making the switch for tonight to team up with a slew of top-ranked recruits that include five-star SF Mackenzie Mgbako, four-star CG Bronny James, four-star SF Mookie Cook, and four-star SG Wesley Yates. Sheppard is sticking with Midwest Basketball Club, which he spent the summer playing for on the 3SSB circuit. The four-star CG is teammates with four-star PG Gabe Cupps and four-star SG Rayvon Griffith.
To say this is going to be a star-studded matchup is almost an undersell. With that in mind, KSR will be hosting a live blog for the event, so clear your schedule to watch the future of Kentucky basketball with the crew.
But that’s not the only matchup of the day the Big Blue Nation should pay close attention to. A trio of games surrounds the primetime between Sheppard and Dillingham, and they’re filled with plenty of Kentucky targets.
Strive for Greatness 16U (Pharoah Compton, Bryce James) vs. Vegas Elite 16U (John Paul Mobley Jr.) 5 p.m. ET, ESPNU
Of the four games taking place in Vegas, this will be the one without any serious Kentucky targets, but there will still be reasons to watch. Pharoah Compton has been one of the biggest surprises of the summer thanks to his play at the Pangos All-American Camp while Bryce James (the second son of LeBron James) is believed by some to be an even better long-term prospect than his older brother Bronny (who has been on a tear this summer in his own right). Both are class of 2024 prospects with Compton currently holding a four-star ranking from On3.

On the other end for Vegas Elite, John Paul Mobley Jr. might be the best outside shooter in the country regardless of class. He’s an undersized point guard but has limitless range. Mobley was one of the standouts this past week at the Nike Peach Jam and has recently earned offers from LSU and Ohio State.
West Coast Elite 17U (Vyctorius Miller) vs. Compton Magic 17U (Koa Peat) 7 p.m. ET, ESPN
Considered a top class of 2024 prospect by the On3 Consensus, Vcytorius Miller will suit up for West Coast Elite on the 3SSB circuit, playing up a year in age. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard heard from Kentucky once the contact period began on June 15 but it’s unclear what the level of communication is between the two sides as of right now.
On the other end, Koa Peat is becoming a household name in the high school basketball world. He was one of two rising sophomores that traveled to Spain for the 2022 U17 FIBA World Cup, where Team USA cruised to another gold medal. UK head coach John Calipari made the trip out there to watch several of his top targets, and it’s likely he keep close eyes on Peat, too. Once rankings are released for the ’25 class, expect him to debut with five stars next to his name. Keep in mind that Peat is playing up two years with the 17U program.
Midwest Basketball Club 17U (Reed Sheppard, Gabe Cupps, Rayvon Griffith) vs. Strive For Greatness 17U (Mackenzie Mgbako, Bronny James, Mookie Cook, Wesley Yates) 9 p.m. EST, ESPN
Oakland Soldiers 16U vs. Paul George Elite 16U (Isaiah Elohim, Jamari Phillips) 11 p.m. ET, ESPN2
Paul George Elite 16U boasts two Kentucky targets, one of whom has already received an offer from the ‘Cats. Isaiah Elohim picked up his scholarship from UK just a few days after the contact period opened and has remained in touch with the staff ever since. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard is ranked as the No. 6 overall ’24 prospect, per the On3 Consensus. Alongside Elohim is 6-foot-3, four-star shooting guard Jamari Phillips, who heard from Kentucky once the contact period began but has not yet received an offer.
