Reed Sheppard impresses at Adidas 3SSB Championships

Most of the recruiting world was focused on the Nike EYBL Peach Jam this past weekend, but Reed Sheppard continues to impress on the Adidas circuit. The North Laurel star led his Midwest Basketball Club to the semifinals of the Adidas 3SSB Championships in Council Bluffs, Iowa, turning the heads of coaches and analysts alike. 247 Sports’ Travis Branham included Sheppard in his writeup of the event, calling him “one of the most well-rounded, consistent and mature guards” in the 2023 class.

Reed Sheppard, a 6-foot-3 combo guard out of London (Ky.) North Laurel, has become one of the hottest prospects in the 2023 class and for good reason. Sheppard is one of the most well-rounded, consistent and mature guards in his class who consistently makes the right plays.

This weekend, Sheppard continued that trend, although falling short of the 3SSB Championship in a loss to Dream Vision. In his matchup with the stout Dream Vision program, Sheppard took over in the second half attempting a comeback but Dream Vision was just too much in the end.

Sheppard’s IQ, skillset and shot-making were on full display this weekend as was his playmaking. He connected on jumpers with range both off the catch and bounce, finished at the rim with both hands and created opportunities for his teammates, all which capitalized and shined in their own light.

As you probably know by now, Sheppard picked up an offer from Kentucky on July 9 after John Calipari and his staff watched him play at an Adidas event in Birmingham. Kentucky’s staff was at the Peach Jam this weekend, but Chin Coleman did make the trip to Iowa on Friday to see Reed play. So far this summer, Sheppard has received offers from Kentucky, Arizona State, Clemson, Indiana, Louisville, and Ohio State, among others. While the Cats are the early favorite in his 247 Sports Crystal Ball, Branham says to keep an eye on Tony Bennett and Virginia.
