Reed Sheppard is officially on the national radar.

On Wednesday afternoon, 247 Sports updated its expanded national rankings and the class of 2023 received some in-state love. Reed Sheppard, a sophomore guard from North Laurel and the son of former Kentucky Wildcats Jeff Sheppard and Stacey Reed, made his debut in the rankings, coming in at No. 65 as a three-star prospect. 247 Sports tabs him as the second-best player in the state of Kentucky behind Male’s Kaleb Glenn, who made it among the top 50 at No. 44 as a four-star recruit.

Sheppard, who stands at 6-foot-2, has been the topic of conversation around the Bluegrass State for the last few months as his recruitment continues to intensify. He’s earned offers from schools such as Iona and High Point along with one Power 5 program in the Iowa Hawkeyes. Kentucky has not yet extended a scholarship to Sheppard, but the staff has been in contact.

Travis Branham of 247 Sports believes that Sheppard’s stock will only continue to rise:

“He’s going to end up being a 4-star prospect. He’ll definitely be a high-major recruit,” Branham said of Sheppard, according to 247 Sports. “It will depend on his growth and development. Does he continue to expand his game? Does he expand the range on his jumper? Does he improve in pick and roll?”

Sheppard’s North Laurel squad recently loss back-to-back games against Ashland and Lexington Catholic, but the combo guard played well despite the outcome and is a buzzing prospect across the area. He currently leads the entire state in scoring at over 32 points per contest.

Glenn, a 6-foot-6, 200-pound forward, has been a nationally ranked player for a while now and actually boosted his overall rating since the last update by 247 Sports. He’s received offers from the likes of Cincinnati, Iowa State, West Virginia, and Western Kentucky while receiving interest from Louisville, as well.

A third Kentucky player, 6-foot-2 combo guard George Washington out of the Christian Academy of Louisville who transferred from Dallas, TX, came in ranked as a three-star prospect and the No. 74 prospect. Washington does not currently hold any offers but has talked to schools such as Louisville, Ohio State, Cincinnati, Missouri, Purdue, and Florida State.

D.J. Wagner, the top player in the class of 2023 and son of former John Calipari player Dajuan Wagner, held onto the No. 1 position and is considered a heavy Kentucky lean.
