Reed Sheppard got an extra present today courtesy of the Southeastern Conference. Kentucky’s legacy kid won his second SEC Freshman of the Week award following a standout performance vs. Louisville.

In the 95-76 victory over the Cards, Reed notched his first double-double with 11 points and a career-high 11 assists. Those eleven dimes are the most ever by a Kentucky Wildcat vs. Louisville. He also had two steals, extending his season-long streak of at least two in every game, and led the team in efficiency at +27.

Reed ranks fourth in the country in overall plus/minus this season. He’s first in the SEC and ninth nationally in steals per game (2.8). If he continues at this pace (and Kentucky plays in 40 games), he’ll finish with 112, which would shatter Kentucky’s single-season record of 87, set by Rajon Rondo in the 2004-05 season. According to KenPom, Reed is also first in the country in true shooting percentage (76.3%), second in effective field-goal percentage (74.4%), and fourth in three-point percentage (57.8%).

As mentioned, this is Reed’s second SEC Freshman of the Week honor. He also won the award on Dec. 4 following Kentucky’s win over Miami and loss to UNC Wilmington. DJ Wagner has also won SEC Freshman of the Week twice, most recently for his performance in the Cats’ win over North Carolina.

Go Reed. Go DJ. Go Cats.
