Kentucky’s alumni team for this summer’s The Basketball Tournament, La Familia, is slowly filling out. Following the additions of former Wildcats Eric Bledsoe and Doron Lamb to the roster, a third piece has been announced.

On Wednesday morning, TBT revealed that Reid Travis, who played one season at Kentucky in 2018-19, will suit up for La Familia. Travis, 28, averaged 11.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per outing during his time in Lexington. He spent the first four seasons of his college career at Stanford before transferring to UK as a graduate student.

Now, Travis will return to Rupp Arena this summer as La Familia looks to win the $1 million, winner-takes-all grand prize.

“What’s up BBN! I’m excited to come back to Lexington this summer to join team La Familia and the TBT,” Travis said in the below video. “Let’s get that chip, let’s get it.”

So far, Travis, Lamb, and Bledsoe are the only one-time Kentucky players who have been announced as participants in The Basketball Tournament. Another fellow ‘Cat, Twany Beckham, is La Familia’s general manager. More players will be announced in the coming weeks.

Since leaving Kentucky, Travis has bounced around to play professional basketball. He was undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft but was picked up by the Atlanta Hawks for the 2019 Summer League. The 6-foot-8 big man then made stops in Germany and Japan before making it back to the United States, where he actually suited up alongside Oscar Tshiebwe for a short stint with the Indiana Mad Ants (G League).

On Tuesday, it was announced that Travis had signed a contract with Levanga Hokkaido of Japan’s B.League.

TBT: Need to Know

Looking ahead to TBT this summer, eight regional sites will host the 64 teams in this year’s bracket. For the fifth straight summer, a winner-takes-all grand prize of $1 million will go to the championship team. Lexington hosted a regional site back in 2019 at Frederick Douglass High School, but this will be the first time it’s held at Rupp Arena (July 19-24).

Since TBT began in 2014, it has awarded more than $13M in prize money and has been viewed in more than 180 countries around the world. Alumni teams have won TBT’s championship in four of the past five summers, with teams representing Ohio State, Marquette, Syracuse, and the University of Buffalo taking home the $1M prize between 2019-2022.

TBT is also the home of the Elam Ending, the alternate ending to games where teams play to a target score instead of using the game clock. ESPN will broadcast every game across its family of networks.

Tickets for the 2024 Lexington Regional will go on sale at a later date. To be the first to secure tickets for the event, fans can sign up for TBT’s waitlist at thetournament.com/tbt/tickets/.
