Relive Big Kentucky Wins at South Carolina
The road trip to South Carolina has been kind to road warriors around the Big Blue Nation. Kentucky is seeking its fourth win at Williams-Brice Stadium since 2015. Before the Cats make more memories in the middle of the Sandstorm, relive the best moments from the previous three road wins.
2015: Kentucky Snaps Road Losing Streak
Kentucky had not won a game on the road in more than five years. In year three, Mark Stoops’ defense made a timely play to snap a 22-game road losing streak.
South Carolina needed a two-point conversion to tie the game in the fourth quarter. Wide receiver Pharoh Cooper took the direct snap out of the Wildcat and was stripped at the line of scrimmage. Denzil Ware scooped the ball and returned it 98 yards to give the Cats a 26-22 advantage. Chris Westry iced the game with an interception. The postgame locker room celebration was just what this program needed.
2017: A Lasting Image from Stephen Johnson
The Cats asserted their dominance in the series against the Cocks with a few back-breaking plays at Williams-Brice Stadium. Benny Snell rushed for a pair of touchdowns and 102 yards, but it was the Kentucky quarterback’s legs that changed the game.

On third and eight Stephen Johnson scrambled 58 yards into the red zone. He capped off the play by sticking his tongue out at the South Carolina defenders. Four plays later Austin MacGinnis kicked a field goal to give the Cats a 23-13 lead that put away the Cocks for good.
2021: Kentucky Grinds to a Win
The most recent trip to Columbia wasn’t as pretty, but the Cats got the job done. Kentucky opened the game with a 12-play drive that was capped off with a 15-yard touchdown run by Kavosiey Smoke. They never trailed in the game, but they did give the Gamecocks opportunities to hang around thanks to three turnovers. Chris Rodriguez was the best player on the field, tallying 144 yards in the 16-10 Kentucky victory.
