Karl-Anthony Towns broke our hearts this morning with the news of his mother’s COVID-19 diagnosis and subsequent medically-induced coma. He made the matter public in an emotional video (which you can watch here), saying he believes “it’s important that everyone understands the severity of what’s happening in the world right now with the coronavirus, and I think where my life is right now could help.”

Although there has not been an updated provided by Towns, his family or the NBA on his mother’s status, ESPN NBA reporter Malika Andrews is now reporting Towns’ father, who also tested positive for the virus, is “recovering well.” Towns Sr. spent multiple days in the hospital, according to his son.

In his video Wednesday morning, Towns noted his father had been released from the hospital and is in quarantine.

“I hope my story helps,” Towns said. “I hope my story gives you the correct information. Send my love to all your families,” Towns continued in the video. “I’m praying for every single one of you guys. Give everyone my thoughts and my prayers, and life may keep throwing punches at me, but I’ll keep getting back up. And I ain’t going to quit at any time, and neither will my whole family, neither will my mother.”

Listen to Karl: take this seriously, and continue to keep their family in your thoughts and prayers.
