The Big Blue Nation held its collective breath when a Florida Gator crashed into the legs of TyTy Washington Saturday afternoon at Rupp Arena. It was not the first time an opponent rolled up on a Wildcat — it was not even the first instance for TyTy — but it was certainly the scariest-looking injury of the 2021-22 season.

After the game John Calipari provided some reassuring words about Washington, sharing that he is considered “day-to-day” after receiving x-rays in the locker room. Of course, the BBN has grown to be skeptical of Coach Cal’s injury updates. “I haven’t seen him,” has worn some folks’ patience thin. Fortunately, that’s not our only source of information on Washington. Rob Dauster shared a similar outlook on the injury.

“I spoke with a source close to that program that said they think it’s just an ankle. They don’t think it’s all that serious,” Dauster said on the Field of 68 After Dark podcast. “They think it’s kind of a day-to-day thing. Status is still TBD moving forward since it’s so recent. It looked a lot worse than what I think it actually is. I think they got a little bit lucky on that one.”

The injury may not be as severe as it appeared, but it will still likely sideline Washington for a few games. Jacob Toppin missed Saturday’s game with an ankle injury too. With two top 25 opponents waiting to avenge losses to the Wildcats this week, a few reserves may be called upon to play important minutes.

“Cal always talks about being ready for your opportunity. You never know when it’s coming,” Bruiser Flint said Monday morning. “It’s a tough situation at times, but he preaches that, be ready for your opportunity.”
