How you doing, ladies?
Wednesday evening, Rex Chapman was inducted into the Kentucky Athletics Hall of Fame.
Over at the always beloved C-J, Rex dropped a few quotes from the induction (along with a fantastic picture with Artis Gilmore that I refused to steal just this once).
Regarding his infamous dunk in the waning seconds of a huge victory against the defending-champion Cards, Rex had this to say:
“I grew up a Louisville fan,” he said. “Coach (Denny) Crum really recruited me hard. I knew what the rivalry meant. I was happy that we won, but at the same time I was a little emotional for Coach Crum and those guys. It was so unexpected. We weren't a really good team that year. They were coming off winning a title.”
I will honestly say that I never knew that bit of information. Regardless, Rex will always bleed blue for the Cats and we will hold him close in Big Blue Lore forever. He was inducted with 7 others into the Hall of Fame at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Louisville.
His son Zeke recently graduated and will be playing basketball for a different group of Cardinals in the near future - the Ball State Cards, to be exact.
