On Thursday, the USA Basketball Women’s National Team announced its April Training Camp Roster. The 14-athlete roster will be in attendance for training camp on April 3-5 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Out of the 14 women selected, a former Kentucky Wildcat will be in attendance. No surprise, it’s Rhyne Howard.

Howard is currently on the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream, a two-time All-Star, and is the Director of Player Personnel for the University of Florida Women’s Basketball. The former Kentucky guard has participated in previous USA training camps, the most recent being in February. The Kentucky-alum is also the only Atlanta Dream player to be featured on the roster.

The official USA Women’s National Team roster for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris will be announced sometime after training camp.

Howard spent four seasons at the University of Kentucky and became one of the best to ever grace the floor of Memorial Coliseum. The guard played in 114 games as a Wildcat, accruing a total of 2,290 points, solidifying her spot as the second-most leading scorer in UK history.

Additionally, Howard was a two-time SEC Player of the Year and three-time First-Team All-American, as well as earning the No. 1 overall draft pick in the 2022 WNBA Draft.

Who else is making an appearance?

Along with Howard is another training camp alum, Aliyah Boston of the Indiana Fever. Five-time Olympic champion Diana Taurasi (Phoenix Mercury) will be in attendance, as well as eight other Olympians. Those include Ariel Atkins (Washington Mythics), Chelsea Gray (Las Vegas Aces), Brittney Griner (Phoenix Mercury), Jewell Loyd (Seattle Storm), Kelsey Plum (Las Vegas Aces), Breanna Stewart (New York Liberty), A’ja Wilson (Las Vegas Aces), and Jackie Young (Las Vegas Aces).

Current WNBA athletes Sabrina Ionescu (New York Liberty) and Shakira Austin (Washington Mythics) will be in attendance. Making her USA Women’s National Team Training Camp debut is current college phenom, Caitlin Clark. The guard from Iowa currently holds the NCAA all-time scoring record with 3,830 points. Clark broke fellow Training Camp attendee Kelsey Plum’s record in February.

While the roster is subject to change, it’s good to see Rhyne Howard on that list. The team is “in pursuit of its eighth consecutive Olympic gold medal.” The board also “continues to evaluate the 2021-24 USA Women’s National Team player pool” before making a definite decision on the roster, as stated in an official release.

Come summer, hopefully we’ll see Howard’s name on that final roster.
