Rhyne Howard receives two preseason All-American honors
One of the greatest players to ever to suit up in a Kentucky Basketball uniform is primed for a fantastic finish to her Wildcat career. Rhyne Howard, a two-time SEC Player of the Year, has already been tabbed as a preseason first-team All-American by both The Athletic and Lindy’s Sports. The senior guard was a unanimous first-team All-American last season.
Lindy’s Sports also tabbed Howard as a preseason All-American ahead of 2020-21.
Joining Rhyne Howard on The Athletic’s preseason All-American first-team are NyLyssa Smith (Baylor), Caitlin Clark (Iowa), Paige Bueckers (UConn), and Aliyah Boston (South Carolina).
Howard is no stranger to making preseason watch lists, and even less so when it comes to winning awards by the time March rolls around. She’s been Kentucky’s best player since she was a sophomore and is coming off a junior campaign that saw her put up 20.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game while shooting over 44 percent from the floor and 37 percent from distance.

Her list of accolades is too long to mention everything. Howard has won multiple Gold medals for Team USA, two SEC Player of the Year awards, National Freshman of the Year, several All-American nods, and is soaring up the Wildcat record books with every passing game. 2021-22 should be another stat sheet-stuffed season for Howard and her Wildcats, which will likely be a top 20 team in the nation by the time the year begins.
Kentucky Women’s Basketball will host a Blue-White Scrimmage on Oct. 24 before an exhibition matchup against Lee University on Nov. 4. The regular season tips off against Presbyterian College inside of Memorial Coliseum on Nov. 9.
