Rhyne Howard will be quite busy this weekend.

The Atlanta Dream rookie guard has already been tabbed to the 2022 WNBA All-Star Game after she was drafted second overall among reserves by Team Wilson. But that’s not the only event she’s participating in at All-Star Weekend — Howard is also going to try and win the 3-Point Contest.

On Thursday morning, it was announced by the league that Howard will be one of six players set to tackle the MTN DEW® 3-Point Contest, which is scheduled for Saturday, July 9 in Chicago. The former Kentucky Wildcat All-American will join three-time event winner Allie Quigley and current WNBA made-triples leader Kelsey Plum along with Ariel Watkins, Jewell Loyd, and Arike Ogunbowale as the six-woman field.

The MTN DEW 3-Point Contest and WNBA Skills Challenge will air live on ESPN at 3 p.m. EST as part of AT&T WNBA All-Star 2022. The All-Star Game is set for Sunday at 1:00 p.m. EST.

Through 22 games for the Dream (10-12), the recent No. 1 overall draft pick is leading her team in scoring at 15.1 points per outing. She was named the Rookie of the Month in June, her second Rookie of the Month honor this year. Howard averaged 14.3 points while leading all rookies in made field goals (5.3) and three-pointers (2.1) per game in June.

The timing of Howard being named to the 3-Point Contest lines up perfectly with an ESPN article that was released Thursday morning by Alexa Philippou. She spent some time predicting which young players will have the most success moving forward in the WNBA, tabbing Howard as a “Future game-winning bucket”. Philippou also considered Howard as an honorable mention for “Future scoring champ”.

Let’s hope Howard can hit a game-winning bucket in this weekend’s 3-Point Contest.
