Rhyne Howard will wear No. 5 on Senior Day in honor of Terrence Clarke
Rhyne Howard Day just got a little extra special.
On Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. EST, Kentucky Women’s Basketball will face the Auburn Tigers at Memorial Coliseum in what will be the Wildcats’ Senior Day. Howard, the reigning two-time SEC Player of the Year and expected top two WNBA Draft pick, is set to be recognized for her record-breaking career at UK. The day has been dubbed “Rhyne Howard Day“, as she is the only senior expected to graduate after this season.
But Howard isn’t making it all about herself. The 6-foot-2 native of Cleveland, TN will switch from jersey No. 10 to No. 5 for Sunday’s game and Sunday’s game only. She’s making the change to honor two of the most important people in her life: teammate Blair Green and the late Terrence Clarke.
Green is a senior guard from Harlan, KY who suffered a ruptured Achilles prior to the start of the season and has not played since. Green has worn No. 5 ever since arriving in Lexington at the same time as Howard, and the two have been self-described best friends ever since.

Howard will also don the No. 5 on Sunday to honor Clarke, who tragically passed away nearly one year ago in a tragic car crash that stopped the entire Big Blue Nation in its tracks. During his freshman season at Kentucky, Clarke also wore No. 5 on the back of his jersey. Howard and Clarke were also incredibly close before his untimely death.
Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. EST, but Rhyne Howard Day festivities will begin shortly beforehand around 3:40, so make sure to show up early. The game will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
