Rhyne Howard wins third-straight WNBA Rookie of the Month honor
Rhyne Howard continues to dominate in her first year as a professional. The former Kentucky Wildcat just won WNBA Kia Rookie of the Month for the THIRD consecutive month and sixth time this season. The Atlanta Dream guard is now only the seventh player in WNBA history to win Rookie of the Month three months in a row.
In the month of July, Howard averaged 16.3 points, 1.6 steals, and 0.8 blocks to lead all rookies, and averaged 4.8 rebounds. She ranked first among rookies in made field goals (5.8) and threes per game (2.4). Howard scored in double digits in seven of Atlanta’s eight games in July and 20 or more points in three. Her biggest performance last month came against Las Vegas, where she put up 24 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 blocks to lead the Dream to the win.

Howard leads all rookies in average points (15.6), three-pointers made (2.4), assists (2.6), and steals (1.5) per game. Last month, she was named to the WNBA All-Star Game, where she finished with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and a steal in just over 15 minutes of action. Howard has scored 20 or more points in eight games this season; the rest of the rookies in the league have combined for just six.
If you’re curious, the WNBA hands out its Rookie of the Year award in October. At this rate, they might as well start engraving the trophy.
