Rhyne Howard named WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week
Just one week into her professional career, Rhyne Howard is winning awards. Today, Howard was named WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week. She’s the first rookie to take home the title since 2019, and the first rookie to win it in the first week of their WNBA career since Tamika Catchings in 2002.
Yesterday, Howard made WNBA history. The former Kentucky great scored 17 points in the first quarter of Atlanta’s win over Indiana, the most ever by a rookie in an opening period in WNBA history. She finished with 33 points, a new career-high, on 9-18 shooting from the floor, 3-8 from behind the three-point line, and 12-17 from the free-throw line.
