Rick Pitino is suing Adidas for damaging his reputation
Today in “What did Rick Pitino do now”: the former Louisville coach is suing Adidas for — get this — ruining his reputation by funneling money to Brian Bowen.
Oh yes, Pitino alleges he suffered damages as a result of Adidas’ “outrageous conduct in conspiring to funnel money to the family of a college basketball recruit,” which he continues to claim happened without his “knowledge, participation, or acquiescence.” The federal lawsuit comes one day after Adidas terminated its contract with Pitino, who reportedly got 98% of the $39 million Louisville was owed in its current deal with the apparel company.
“Coach Pitino has striven to ensure that the University of Louisville men’s basketball program operates cleanly, properly, and in strict compliance with all National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), and other regulatory requirements,” the lawsuit reads. “He has never authorized, tolerated, participated in, or otherwise condoned giving improper benefits to recruits or players, or to their families.”
So, let me get this straight. Pitino is suing someone else for damaging his reputation?! Hahahaha.
