It's never too early to announce your departure, I guess. In today's pre-Georgetown news conference, Rick Pitino discussed the importance of living in the present -- and then he announced his retirement. Kind of.
"My contract runs out in 2017, I'm not coaching anymore after that."
If Pitino does hang up his crusty coaching pants in 2017, he'll be leaving the game exactly 20 years after he left Kentucky for Boston. I can promise you he'll look back on those 20 years of mediocrity and say, "What the hell did I do?"
