Another former Kentucky player has found a new college football home. Class of 2020 signee Rickey Hyatt Jr. will be moving to the Sun Belt.

Back in June, the former defensive back at Kentucky announced that he will be transferring to South Alabama.

The Westerville (Ohio) Central product was a part of the 2020 recruiting class for Mark Stoops. The 6-foot-2 defensive back spent two seasons with the program and played in just one game during his career in the SEC.

Rickey Hyatt Jr. entered the transfer portal on April 20 and quickly started to see interest from Group of Five programs. Both Ohio and Miami (Ohio) issued scholarship offers to the safety. However, Kane Wommack’s program was able to win out and will have the transfer on the roster when fall camp begins.

Wommack is entering his second year as the head coach at South Alabama after leading the Jaguars to a 5-7 record last year. The former Indiana defensive coordinator is just 35 years old making him one of the youngest head coaches in the FBS.

Kentucky saw 16 scholarship players enter the transfer portal since the end of the 2021 season, and each player outside of Torrance Davis has a reported new home. Tight end/wide receiver Tre’Von Morgan has re-entered the portal after originally landing at Miami (Ohio).
