The post-spring practice wave of transfers continues at the University of Kentucky. Reuben “RJ” Adams is the latest member of Mark Stoops’ football team to submit his name into the transfer portal. A redshirt freshman, Adams did not record significant snaps during his two-year tenure in Lexington.

A highly-touted prospect in the 2020 recruiting class, Rivals and ESPN ranked Adams as a Top 20 IOL and a four-star prospect. Adams, a Woodbridge, Va. native, chose Kentucky over scholarship offers from NC State and Alabama, among others.

Adams is the second Wildcat in four days to enter into the transfer portal. Like wide receiver Earnest Sanders, Adams was one of six Kentucky football players charged and suspended for most of the 2021 football season following an altercation at an off-campus party. The charges were eventually dropped and Adams was cleared to return to play.

Adams’ departure gets Kentucky down to 14 scholarship offensive linemen for the 2022 football season. Even though he was a coveted prospect and a big recruiting win, Kentucky is doing just fine on the interior of the Big Blue Wall. Tashawn Manning transferred from Auburn to hold down the ones with Kenneth Horsey. They are backed up by two former four-stars from the state of Kentucky, John Young and Jager Burton. Both players received rave reviews for taking significant steps forward during the spring, setting them up to assume the starting roles in 2023.

The post-spring practice transfers should not come as a surprise. Mark Stoops wrapped up the 15-practice season by sharing there would be some “difficult” conversations within the next week, allowing players time to find a new home before the May 1 transfer portal deadline.
