Rob Dillingham got John Calipari a cake for his 65th birthday
In news that will warm your heart, Rob Dillingham did something extra nice for John Calipari’s birthday.
Calipari recently hit another year in life, turning 65 years old over the weekend on Saturday, Feb. 10. He specifically told everyone not to get him anything special, but Dillingham decided to go against his head coach’s wishes. The freshman guard went out of his way to purchase a personalized cake from Brandi Romines, a professional cake maker in Lexington.
During his weekly radio show on Monday night, Calipari told the story.
“This is what makes me proud. So you may not have known it, but it was my birthday on the 10th,” Calipari said. “The 9th, we had dinner, and I told everybody, this is about this team, not me having a birthday. I don’t want any recognition, I want nothing. Told my wife, told my staff, told my secretary, nothing, don’t.
“We go to dinner and at the end of dinner, Robert walks in with this cake that Brandi did, which was ridiculous, and I said well that’s nice but what I didn’t know is he direct messaged her himself and then said, how much is this cake when she brought it because I will — whatever they do, PayPal. But he was willing to buy the cake himself. Now, that shows you his heart and that he’s kind.“

Unfortunately, we don’t have a picture of what the cake that Dillingham gave Calipari looks like, but it would surely be one that makes us point at and acknowledge its existence.
For those unaware, Romines is a popular cake maker who serves the entire Bluegrass State. She’s a licensed baker for the University of Kentucky and was featured on Netflix’s Baking Impossible, which aired in 2021. Romines even made the cake for one of the men’s basketball team’s recent recruiting visitors.
