Robyn Benton and Maddie Scherr ruled OUT for Kentucky vs. Georgia
The Kentucky women’s basketball team has lost 13 of its last 16 games. Kyra Elzy’s group is in desperate need of a pat on the back. Instead, the ‘Cats received a punch in the gut.
A little under an hour before tip-off, Kentucky Women’s basketball play-by-play announcer Darren Headrick tweeted that UK would be without starting guards Robyn Benton and Maddie Scherr for its Thursday night matchup against Georgia. Kentucky is just 10-14 on the season and 2-10 in SEC play.
Scherr missed the second half of Kentucky’s latest loss due to headaches. However, the program had not released any other word on the junior star’s condition until Thursday evening. After the loss at Ole Miss, Elzy discussed Scherr’s second-half absence.
“She’s a tough kid and we have an unbelievable medical staff,” Elzy said. “Obviously, we do miss her when she’s not on the floor, but her health is the most important to us. So, we’ll take it day-to-day until we can get her back feeling well.”

Evidently, Scherr is not feeling well enough to give it a go tonight. Unlike Scherr, Benton is out due to injury. Specifically, Kentucky’s leading scorer is sidelined with an ankle injury. This isn’t the first time Benton’s ankle has betrayed her this season. She missed Kentucky’s loss against Arkansas on Jan. 1 due to aggravating the same ankle. The ‘Cats will feel the dynamic duo’s absence. Benton leads her team with 17.5 points per game. Meanwhile, Scherr leads UK in assists, rebounds and blocks.
Watch Kentucky attempt to mount a monstrous upset against Georgia at 7 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum. The game will be broadcast on the SEC Network+.
