Rockcastle Middle School couldn't practice, so they traveled to Lexington to watch the Wildcats

High atop Rupp Arena at last night’s exhibition game, the Rockcastle County Middle School basketball team was spotted in Section 236, near KSR’s seats in the bleachers. The large group of young Rockets was easy to spot in an otherwise empty section in the upper-level end zone.

Sensing their excitement to be there, I struck up a conversation with the team’s coaches to get their story. Turns out, it was a good one. They were supposed to have basketball practice on Tuesday evening, but the school chorus occupied the school gym for the night, so the coaches took the boys to Lexington for a team-building experience, including dinner and seats to Kentucky versus Minnesota State University.

The night got even better when UK Athletics upgraded all of their seats (and it was a lot of seats) from the upper level to the lower bowl at tip-off. It must’ve been a special night for the team, and it was great meeting all of them before they left our upper-level corner for a better view. There will always be other days to practice, but an experience like last night can’t be recreated.

Snackwards Cam returned

Also from last night, the Snackwards Cam returned during a second-half timeout. This is one of the best non-basketball parts of going to a Kentucky Basketball game. Enjoy.
