Aidan Mahaney is one of the many transfer portal prospects who have heard from Kentucky and new head coach Mark Pope over the last week. He’s now considering taking a visit to Lexington.

According to Fox Sports’ Aaron Torres, Mahaney, who spent his first two college seasons at Saint Mary’s, has scheduled upcoming visits to Virginia (today) and UConn and has already visited Creighton. Additionally, the 6-foot-3 guard is debating on where to spend his final visit. Torres reports that trip will come down to Florida, Southern California, and Kentucky.

A two-time First Team All-WCC performer, Mahaney averaged 13.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 33.3 minutes per game for Saint Mary’s this past season. He started all 34 games while shooting 38.6 percent overall, 35.5 percent from deep, and 81.3 percent from the line.

Mahaney is considered the 32nd-best overall player to enter the transfer portal this offseason and the eighth-best point guard, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He will have two years of eligibility remaining at his next stop.

Out of Campolindo (CA) High School, Mahaney was a three-star recruit before committing to Saint Mary’s over the likes of Xavier, Washington St., California, Northwestern, Princeton, and Yale. He is currently represented by Kluch Sports Group for NIL.

As a freshman with the Gales in 2022-23, Mahaney was named a finalist for the Kyle Macy Award, presented to the best freshman in the nation. He appeared in all 35 games, starting 26 of them. Mahaney averaged 13.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, and two assists in 30.5 minutes per contest on shooting splits of 42.8/40/71.8.

Mahaney’s shooting numbers dipped slightly from his freshman to sophomore campaign, but the winning sure didn’t. Saint Mary’s went 26-8 this past season with a 15-1 mark in the WCC, even beating Gonzaga in the WCC Tournament. Mahaney dropped 23 points on 5-7 shooting from deep against the Bulldogs.
