San Diego State transfer Keshad Johnson will reportedly visit Kentucky this week
A member of San Diego State’s national championship runner-up squad is coming to Lexington this week.
According to Travis Branham of 247Sports, SDSU transfer Keshad Johnson will take a visit to Kentucky beginning on Wednesday, May 10, and running through Friday, May 12. The 6-foot-7 forward entered his name into the transfer portal on April 12 and, more recently, announced on Saturday that the Wildcats made his final cut.
Johnson is also considering Arizona State, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Southern California, and the pro route. He has already taken visits to Oklahoma and USC.
A native of Oakland, CA, Johnson started all 39 games for the Aztecs in 2022-23, recording 14 points and four rebounds in San Diego State’s 76-59 loss to UConn in the 2023 NCAA Tournament title game. He will have one year of college eligibility left after spending his first four seasons at SDSU.
Considered a low three-star prospect out of San Leandro (CA) High School, Johnson has steadily improved his game since taking his talents to the college level. He went from playing 5.9 minutes per game in just 18 appearances as a freshman in ’19-20 to seeing 13.5 minutes per game across 24 outings as a sophomore in ’20-21.

The last two seasons, however, are where Johnson’s game has grown the most. He averaged 7.2 points and 4.5 rebounds in 23.8 minutes per game (starting all 32 games he appeared in) on 55.3 percent shooting from the floor as a junior in ’21-22. As a senior this past season, his numbers ticked up to 7.7 points and 5.0 rebounds in 22.2 minutes per contest (starting all 39 games) on 53.2 percent overall shooting.
While Johnson’s outside shooting numbers leave something to be desired (26.2 percent on 1.1 attempts from 3 in ’22-23; 24.6 percent for his career), where he thrives is as a two-way threat. He can score efficiently at the rim and is a high-level defender.
Also testing the NBA Draft waters, Johnson has until May 31 to withdraw and return to college. According to On3, he’s slotted as the 20th-best available prospect on the transfer portal market. He is not currently ranked among the Top 100 best available 2023 NBA Draft prospects by ESPN.
