Bad weather across the state is on its way, so there’s been some schedule changes for this week of Kentucky high school football.

Several games originally scheduled for Friday have been moved to Thursday night, including the KSR Game of the Week between No. 3 Paducah Tilghman and Allen County-Scottsville. A total of 10 teams from KSR’s Top 25 rankings will be in action tonight with 12 more taking the field on Friday. No. 8 Frederick Douglass, No. 11 Ryle, and No. 17 Woodford County are on byes this week.

In total, we’ll have three matchups this week between ranked teams. Along with tonight’s Game of the Week, a big one in Louisville will take place Friday night as No. 7 St. Xavier hosts No. 2 Trinity. Up in northern Kentucky, we’ll see No. 14 Highlands host No. 5 Cooper also on Friday. As long as the storms can hold off, we should be in for another exciting week of high school football.

As we gear up for Week 6 action, we’re predicting the score for every major game on the docket for Friday. Using the Massey Ratings — a system created in 1999 by statistician Kenneth Massey that was used to help determine the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) until 2013 — we are able to plug every high school team across the state into a tool that will predict the final outcome of any given matchup.

As a quick explanation, the Massey Ratings are computer ratings based on historical trends and current-year stats. With that in mind, it will need a few weeks’ worth of games before the numbers begin to hit their stride. However, you won’t find a more reliable system to use in terms of predicting scores throughout the first couple of weeks of the regular season.

Below, we have included score predictions for all of KSR’s Top 25 teams, along with the additional teams receiving votes from our panel of 10 voters.
