We’re in for another fun stretch of high school football in the state of Kentucky. District play is officially underway as we’re over halfway through the regular season.

Week 7 action features three matchups between KSR’s Top 25 ranked teams. The KSR Game of the Week headlines the schedule, as No. 3 Male and No. 8 Frederick Douglass will meet for the first-ever meeting on the gridiron. We’ll also be treated to No. 11 Ryle visiting No. 4 St. Xavier in Louisville and No. 13 Corbin battling No. 21 Johnson Central in Paintsville.

A big chunk of games are scheduled for Thursday night as well, including five featuring ranked or receiving votes teams. The likes of No. 1 Boyle County, No. 16 DuPont Manual, and No. 20 South Warren are all on byes this week, but otherwise, it’s a packed slate.

As we gear up for Week 7 action, we’re predicting the score for every major game on the docket for Friday. Using the Massey Ratings — a system created in 1999 by statistician Kenneth Massey that was used to help determine the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) until 2013 — we are able to plug every high school team across the state into a tool that will predict the final outcome of any given matchup.

As a quick explanation, the Massey Ratings are computer ratings based on historical trends and current-year stats. With that in mind, it will need a few weeks’ worth of games before the numbers begin to hit their stride. However, you won’t find a more reliable system to use in terms of predicting scores throughout the first couple of weeks of the regular season.
