Scoreboard Rundown: No. 1 Boyle County goes down as state semifinals are set

48 teams entered Friday still in contention for one of Kentucky’s six state football championships. Following a handful of upsets and close finishes, only 24 remain as the semifinals have officially been set.

No result was more shocking than top-ranked Boyle County being upset by No. 20 Covington Catholic 31-28 in Class 4A. The nationally-ranked Rebels had won the last four 4A state championships (beating Covington Catholic in 2023) and were riding a 32-game winning streak. But Boyle County star/Kentucky commit Montavin Quisenverry fumbled at the one-yard line with roughly 90 seconds left.

Along with Class 4A, we’ll also see new state champions this season in Class 1A and 2A.
