Scott County ran all over No. 20 South Oldham Friday night en route to a dominant 28-7 win in the KSR Game of the Week.

The Cardinals, who are one of the hottest teams in 5A, extend their winning streak to four games while snapping South Oldham’s six-game winning streak. Expect coach Jim McKee’s team to slip in next week’s KSR Top 25 Rankings.

Senior running back Ali Hamdiyah dominated the South Oldham defense, lighting the Dragons up for 201 all-purpose yards (174 rushing yards) and two touchdowns.

“God blessed (Hamdiyah) with a lot of talent,” coach Jim McKee said postgame. “That’s one thing that you can’t coach, is how to run a football. You can coach them on how to carry it and where to cut, but after that, talent takes over. He’s talented man.”

Hamdiyah missed three of Scott County’s first four games, which saw the Cardinals start the season 1-3. Since his solidified return however, they’ve rattled off four straight wins, two of which came against teams ranked in this week’s KSR Top 25 Rankings (No. 19 Madison Central and No. 20 South Oldham).

The Cardinal offense started off hot, as Hamdiyah found pay dirt from 21 yards out to open the game with a score for Scott County. Then after 19 minutes of scoreless game action, Scott County quarterback Andrew Hickey found senior wide receiver Elijah Lilly in the end zone for a 24-yard touchdown to push their lead to 14 points at the half.

The Dragons came firing out of the break however, as it took just four plays for senior running back Julian Miles to score from 11 yards out to cut the deficit in half. The Scott County offense and defense however were just too much for coach Cain Sams’ team to handle Friday night however, as back-to-back touchdowns from Hamdiyah and senior Jackson Damron put the game on ice.

“Football’s a long season, so you’ve got to keep your head down,” McKee said following the win. “Keep moving, keep working. It’s still a long way to go, and we may even see South Oldham again. Woodford County’s got a good team, so we’ll enjoy this until the morning.”

Scott County hosts Woodford County in a massive matchup next Friday night, while South Oldham looks to bounce back at home against North Bullitt. The Dragons handed Woodford County its first loss of the season last week.
