No one saw what happened on Friday morning outside of Valhalla Golf Club. After a pedestrian fatality caused a huge traffic jam outside of the PGA Championship, world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler attempted to navigate his way through traffic by traveling on a median. That move ended with him being arrested at 6:01 a.m. ET.

Scottie Scheffler was charged with felony assault of a police officer, criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding signals from officers directing traffic. The 27-year-old was booked by Louisville Metro Department of Corrections at 7:28 a.m. ET and released at 8:40 a.m. ET. Scheffler has a court date on Tuesday, May 21.

ESPN’s Jeff Darlington has reported that the Louisville Metro Police Department did not know who they were arresting and that Scheffler told the arresting officers that he did not know that they were police officers.

Now it looks like Scheffler will continue playing at the 2024 PGA Championship. The two-time Masters champion arrived at the course on Friday morning at 9:12 a.m. ET and has had his 8:48 a.m. ET tee time postponed to 10:08 p.m. ET thanks to a specific PGA rule giving him an exemption for missing his original tee time.

“He’s charged with assault second and criminal mischief and disregarding an officer’s signals,” Scheffler’s attorney Steve Romines said about the charges on Friday. “The assault second is actually a felony.”
