Sean McVay says Liam Coen will finish season with the Rams
A Kentucky homecoming for Liam is not officially official. Today was just the first step in his journey back to Lexington.
After more than a week of whispers, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that Liam Coen would in fact return to the University of Kentucky as the Wildcats’ offensive coordinator. Mortensen did not explicitly say when Coen will be back in Lexington. Friday afternoon Rams coach Sean McVay said he’s had discussions with Coen about his future, one potentially in Lexington, and confirmed the offensive coordinator will finish the season with the Rams.
“We’ve talked about that being a possibility. I don’t think anything’s official yet. If that’s the direction that he goes, he’ll do a great job, just like he did previously. He and I have a great relationship no matter how it ends up finishing up,” said McVay.
“He’s going to do a great job finishing up the rest of this year. If that’s the direction that he chooses, then I know he’ll do an outstanding job there.”

Later on reporters followed up with the Rams head coach less than 24 hours after LA’s thrilling come-from-behind Thursday Night Football win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
“The focus and the concentration will be on this team, finishing out the season the right way,” said McVay. “Hopefully be able to have some more fun games like last night was and then we’ll deal with a lot of different things after the season.”
The phrase he used, “the right way,” is one we’ve heard often from Mark Stoops. There is a certain order of operations they must follow. Mortensen’s report provides reassurance that a Liam Coen reunion at Kentucky will happen, but McVay is telling us it will have to wait to become officially, official until after the NFL season ends.
