SEC Football is Leaving CBS

The dulcet tones of Brad Nessler and Gary Danielson will not accompany SEC football in the future. The SEC's partnership with CBS Sports now has an expiration date. With a deal set to expire after the 2023 season, the two parties could not reach a new agreement. Sports Business Daily reports CBS left the negotiating table after the SEC did not accept an offer for $300 million a year. In the current deal they pay $55 million a year to air the SEC game of the week. For those who aren't very good at math, that means $245 million more dollars a year couldn't cut it for SEC football. ESPN and ABC drove the price up to an an unbelievable new high. SBJ did not have an exact figure, but they expect it to be six times higher, somewhere in the ballpark of $330 million. Why is this a big deal? All of that money is split equally between the 14 SEC schools. The University of Kentucky's athletic department is getting a big raise all for just being in the SEC. Unfortunately, the departure will mean the end of the SEC on CBS intro music. Listening to Gary Danielson was worth it just to hear that beautiful sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4VCu7RYDcA
