The fourth-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide spoiled all of the fun in Rupp Arena on Saturday, beating your University of Kentucky Wildcats in a game with implications near the top of the Southeastern Conference standings. Alabama won the first of two meetings with Kentucky in the regular season with hot shooting and high scoring. Grant Nelson led the way with a game-high 25 points, followed by Mark Sears with 24 and Labaron Philon with 15. The Tide shot 44.8 percent from the field while out-rebounding UK 42-38.

The Cats simply couldn’t get stops late in the game to overcome Alabama leading for more than 23 minutes. Alabama went on a 9-0 run when Kentucky tied the game late, sealing the win for the bad guys.

The visiting team hit more 3s than Kentucky in Kentucky’s own building, although the Wildcats had the better percentage at 40.7 to 38.2. Alabama hit 13 to Kentucky’s 11 from deep, plus a difference of 14 free throw attempts between Alabama and Kentucky.

See more numbers below while we wait to hear from Mark Pope and KSR’s Rapid Reaction.
