This has to be some sort of record…

On Thursday night, the NBA announced the 14 reserve selections for next month’s 2024 NBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis. After former Wildcat guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was tabbed as one of the 10 starters last week, six more one-time Kentucky players have been named reserves for a total of seven UK alums on the All-Star rosters.

Three will suit up for the Eastern Conference while four will represent the Western Conference. The 14 reserve spots were voted on by the league’s 30 head coaches.

  • G Tyrese Maxey (PHI; 1-time All-Star) 25.7 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 6.6 APG, 1 SPG | 44.8/37.3/86.4
  • FC Bam Adebayo (MIA; 3-time All-Star) 20.6 PPG, 10.6 RPG, 4.2 APG, 1 SPG, 1 BPG | 50.1/9.1/78.1

With Maxey making his debut in this event, Kentucky has now produced 19 All-Stars throughout program history, surpassing UCLA’s 18 for the most by one school. Seven All-Stars is also the most ever in one game in terms of former ‘Cats, easily beating out last season’s four-man All-Star group of Adebayo, Gilgeous-Alexander, Randle, and De’Aaron Fox.

Seven All-Stars is a record too. No other school has seen more former players selected to one All-Star Game in the history of the NBA.

There is a chance that Randle ultimately sits out this year’s All-Star Game. Earlier on Thursday, it was announced that the Knicks forward will be re-evaluated in 2-3 weeks due to a right shoulder dislocation. In the event his ailment keeps him away from All-Star weekend, an injury replacement will be named by Commissioner Adam Silver.

Another pair of Wildcats were in consideration for a Western Conference spot, Fox (SAC) and Jamal Murray (DEN), but unless there is a need for an injury replacement for that team, they’ll likely just miss the final cut.

The 73rd NBA All-Star Game is set for Sunday, Feb. 18 at 8:00 p.m. EST on TNT.
