BBNBA: Shaedon Sharpe Continues Dominance in Trail Blazers Road Win
Shaedon Sharpe was supposed to be the centerpiece of the Kentucky Wildcats during the 2021-22 season. John Calipari and former assistant Jai Lucas crafted a backcourt with two top-10 guards in TyTy Washington and Sharpe. Every Wildcat fan knows the story: Sharpe enrolled early and practiced with the team. Calipari even publicly said that Sharpe was redshirting and was “committed to bettering himself and our team in practice this year and being better prepared to lead us next season.”
A long road to the starting lineup
However, when Shaedeon’s name began to be floated within the top 10 of every 2022 NBA mock draft, the speculation got louder. Sharpe ended his Kentucky career without a single minute of action played, and a whole lot of drama was caused. Sharpe sat on the bench as Kentucky lost to No. 15 St. Peter’s in the NCAA Tournament opener and then in an NBA locker room as UK lost to Kansas State last season in the Round of 32.
All that being said, when Sharpe was announced among the Trail Blazers’ starting lineup on Wednesday, his college was announced as Kentucky. The 2022 seventh-overall draft pick has yet not to claim Kentucky when asked, stating that he grew a lot during his year with Calipari. That growth was evident in Wednesday night’s win over Detroit on the road. Sharpe exploded for 29 points on 16 shots after getting the start for the injured Anfernee Simmons. He scored 24 of these 29 points in the second half.
This performance goes to show the reason for the deep sadness that came from Sharpe’s exit from Kentucky. When discussing the Wildcats’ recent failures, most national media members need to remember how important Sharpe was to Calipari’s plan. If Sharpe is averaging 20 points per game in only his second NBA season, it’s hard not to imagine what he could have done to the SEC.
Anthony Davis Impresses in OT Win
The Battle of L.A. aired on ESPN last night as Anthony Davis and LeBron James defended the Staples Center from Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and company. After the Clippers acquired James Harden this week, many looked at Wednesday night’s matchup with the Lakers as the first test. Harden was on the bench for the Clips, but LA was buzzing with excitement for the rivalry.

The Clippers came out swinging, burying the Lakers in the first half by taking a 13-point lead into the break. However, LeBron went vintage for 35 points and 12 rebounds. Davis ended the game with 27 and 10 rebounds while leading the Lakers to an overtime win. The Lake Show may be back.
Tyler Herro Drops 30 points in Defeat to Brooklyn
Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo have continued to develop and electrify for Miami. The Heat was controlling the less-talented Brooklyn Nets on the road. However, the Nets outscored Miami by 12 points in the fourth quarter as Miles Bridges scored 21 in a 109-105 win for Brooklyn.
Herro impressed with 30 points on six made threes while Bam scored 20 points with 14 rebounds. Great stats, but another game ends in the loss column for Miami; they are now 1-4 on the year.
