For the precious few of you clinging to hope that Shaedon Sharpe will return to Kentucky, this may what you need to hear to move on. In one of his rare media appearances, Sharpe sat down with Shams Charania to talk about his NBA Draft decision at the Combine. When asked what he needs to hear from teams in order to decide whether or not he’s staying in, Sharpe suggested the decision has already been made.

“Just getting the info back from teams I want to hear. I feel that really convinced me and pushed me to stay in the draft and declare.”

Sharpe, rated as the No. 1 prospect in the class of 2022 before enrolling early, joined the Kentucky basketball program in January but did not play a single game. He announced on April 21 that he was declaring for the draft while maintaining his eligibility. The mixed messages between his camp and Kentucky’s coaching staff continued over the past month — with John Calipari insisting on April 22 that Sharpe could still return — but really, for the past few weeks, we’ve all just been waiting for the inevitable. After meeting with teams at the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago this week, it appears Sharpe heard what he needed to in order to make his final decision. The latest mock drafts have him going anywhere from No. 4 to No. 6.

In the interview with Charania, Sharpe says he’s “going for the No. 1 spot.” What should excite teams that are considering selecting him?

“You don’t know what’s going to happen. It’s an unknown with me, whether that’s attacking the hoop, finishing above the rim or creating space, making my own shot. You never really know.”

I feel like that sums up this entire process. Best of luck, Shaedon.
