Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is officially the face of Converse, signing a multi-year extension with the brand while also being named Creative Director.

Starting with the brand in 2020, Converse announced the former Wildcat will take over as the future, a deal that also includes his own signature shoe set to release in 2025.

“We’re ready,” Converse wrote on social media.

According to Nick DePaula of Boardroom, the perennial MVP candidate with the Oklahoma City Thunder is not only designing his own signature shoe, but also a full collection of apparel and additional footwear styles.

Gilgeous-Alexander joins Julius Erving, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Larry Johnson, Dennis Rodman, Dwyane Wade and Elton Brand as the only players to receive signature shoes from Converse.

“It’s the foundation of footwear and streetwear,” he told DePaula. “It doesn’t matter where you’re from, what you look like or how old you are, how tall, how short, whether you work in an office or play basketball — everyone has a pair of Converse.”

Gilgeous-Alexander is a prime candidate to win league MVP this season after finishing the regular season averaging 30.1 points, 6.2 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals while leading the Thunder to the No. 1 overall seed in the West.

“I hope I get it, yes,” Gilgeous-Alexander said this week. “I think all the guys are deserving, all have their case. Whatever happens, happens. But whoever gets it is deserving for sure.”

He got one major accolade on Thursday. Is MVP next?
