Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to be featured on Netflix documentary
Netflix will make a documentary on just about anything these days. Whether it is a true crime investigation, the Roman Empire, or some radio show host buying a local wrestling organization, you can get a behind-the-scenes look at everything. The latest topic to get the Netflix docu-series treatment is the NBA, as the first season of Starting 5 dropped on October 9th to the streaming service. It has already been popular enough that Netflix has green-lit season two, which will feature former Kentucky guard, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Starting 5 follows five NBA stars throughout the season, providing viewers a peek into the daily life of the game’s biggest names. Season one has 10 episodes and showcases Jimmy Butler, Anthony Edwards, LeBron James, Domantas Sabonis, and Jayson Tatum throughout the 2023-24 season.
Thus far, the reviews are mixed, but essentially, Netflix tried to mimic the success they had with the PGA Tour in Full Swing, but with the NBA.

In addition to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, season two will focus on Kevin Durant, James Harden, Jaylen Brown, and Tyrese Haliburton. Viewer discretion is advised when the cameras are around James Harden and wherever he may be at any given moment.
Gilgeous-Alexander has had a meteoric rise to basketball stardom since signing with Kentucky as a four-star high school recruit. From Quade Green’s backup to a late lottery pick to an NBA tradeable asset, SGA is now one of the top-paid athletes in the world, has made the Oklahoma City Thunder championship contenders, put Canadian basketball back on the world map, and in his spare time, attends Paris Fashion Week.
Season two of Starting 5 is set to release in October 2025.
