WATCH: Behind the scenes video with Kentucky commit Shamar Porter
Nashville (Tenn.) Ensworth wideout Shamar Porter is currently Kentucky’s top-ranked commit in the 2023 recruiting cycle. The blue-chip prospect is a top-200 recruit and continues the recent recruiting boom we’ve seen at wideout.
Expectations are high for the true boundary receiver. At 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, Porter seems primed for a monster senior season in Middle Tennessee. Before the final high school season gets ramped up, Porter allowed Let’s Ball full access behind the scenes to see what a regular day is like for the star prospect.
In the YouTube video that goes over 40 minutes, Porter welcomes a camera crew into his house. The viewer is introduced to his parents and gets to see what the receiver does in his free time. Porter also takes the camera to the gym and talks candidly while driving around Nashville.
The rising senior seems to be all-in with Kentucky. There is a poster of Porter in a Kentucky jersey hanging from the wall of his bedroom, and the recruit talked very highly of the Wildcats.
“Very excited,” Porter said about his recruitment with Kentucky. “And they made it even better showing they love for me and how much they wanted me. Especially when I go up there they call me probably about once a week.”

Intel on potential head coaching moves
The wide receiver goes on to mention that he is currently in a group message on Snapchat with the 2023 Kentucky commits. Porter believes the coaching staff is focused on adding a wideout or two while also addressing linebacker and defensive back. The 2023 prospect is already looking forward to teaming up with another Nashville native in Lexington.
“We stacked on offense. Like real stacked,” said Porter. “Maybe need one or two more receiver commits, but after that, we should be stacked regardless because we’re going to have people that’s already there such as Barion [Brown]. Me and him going to be one and one. It’s going to be fun.”
At the end of the video, Porter is seen hanging out at his house with Alabama tight end commit Ty Lockwood, Vanderbilt linebacker commit Ethan Crisp, and Ole Miss quarterback commit Marcel Reed. All four prospects are Middle Tennessee natives. Porter and his parents are seen joking with Reed teasing a a potential flip to Kentucky as the quarterback shows over 20 letters that the UK staff sent to him for his birthday.
Kentucky has done a very good job building relationships in Greater Nashville over the last few recruiting cycles, and that is starting to pay off big time. Shamar Porter is the next big recruit from the area, and this all-access feature will allow fans to get to know the 2023 recruit.
