Son of Former Kentucky Stars, Reed Sheppard, Posts Quadruple-Double in High School Game

Reed Sheppard was literally born to play basketball in the state of Kentucky.

His parents, Jeff Sheppard and Stacey Reed, were both superstar players during their respective time playing for the Kentucky Wildcats. Their son appears to be following in their footsteps.

Back on Jan. 20, Reed posted a quadruple-double for North Laurel County High School in an 82-34 win over Jackson County. The freshman (yes, he’s only a freshman), recorded 24 points, 10 rebounds, 14 assists, and 10 steals in the win.

But apparently, this isn’t some new thing for Sheppard, his head coach even said he could put up those kinds of numbers in every single game.

“It’s crazy to say, but he’s capable of doing that almost every night,” said Sheppard’s coach Nate Valentine, according to Jerry Tipton of Kentucky.com. “When they said he had a quadruple-double, you’re not shocked.”

The younger Sheppard has been a varsity high school player since before he was even at that level. He started for North Laurel as an eighth-grader and has already surpassed 1,000 career points. He’s currently the team’s leading scorer at over 19 points per game. If you haven’t heard about the 6-foot-3 budding star yet, you might want to start keeping your ears open.

According to Tipton, Sheppard is not yet consuming himself with the recruiting process.

“We’re really concerned about him enjoying his high school experience right now,” Jeff Sheppard said, according to Tipton. “Those are days that will come, and we’ll see how things play out. At this point, it’s just way, way too early to know about any of that.”

Jeff Sheppard was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 1998 Final Four that saw Kentucky take home its second title in three years. Stacey Reed is a top-10 leading scorer in the history of Kentucky women’s basketball. Both parents have coached their son through the AAU circuit, using their knowledge as former guards to help the budding Kentucky scorer.
