SOURCE: "Current plan" is for Kentucky to play North Carolina in Las Vegas
With news of Ohio State bowing out due to COVID-19 issues, a new opponent for the Kentucky Wildcats surfaced shortly after. According to KSR’s Matt Jones, the “current plan” is for UK to play the North Carolina Tarheels this Saturday in Las Vegas as part of the CBS Sports Classic.
However, the news cannot be made official until UCLA opts out. The Bruins are still technically scheduled to play North Carolina in the game that would have happened right before UK-OSU. But COVID-19 has hit UCLA as well, with head coach Mick Cronin currently in health and safety protocols. UCLA had to cancel its game on Wednesday night against Alabama State as a result and Saturday’s bout is now up in the air.
Kentucky is 7-2 on the season and coming off a bad road loss to Notre Dame last weekend. The matchup in Las Vegas against Ohio State would have been the perfect opportunity to bounce back. While UNC isn’t quite as good as the Buckeyes, first-year head coach Hubert Davis has his squad playing well at 8-2. The Tarheels will still be an excellent test for the ‘Cats.
We’ll know soon enough…
